Description

Dougie is a happy chappie who has lots of love to give.

He has had a hard start in life and due to this he doesn't manage stress very well. This mostly manifests in obsession over certain objects and high arousal. High arousal is when a dog becomes overly excited, making the dog unable to focus and in Dougie's case causing him some distress. At the center we have been working closely with Dougie in order to help him better deal with stress and reduce his obsessive behaviours. He has made fantastic progress but potential adopters would need to be confident in continuing this work.

Dougie is good with children but we are looking for an adult only home for Dougie as he would really benefit from a calm environment that can provide him with a set routine. This applies to pets in the home too. Although Dougie is dog-social he would be best suited as the only dog in the home as he will be much easier to train on a one-to-one basis.

Dougie cannot live with any small furries or cats - he finds them far too exciting!

We are looking for experienced owners who would be able to continue the training we have in place for Dougie here. Someone with rescue dog or staffie experience would be ideal. Dougie would really benefit from having use of a secure garden where he can burn off some steam. He has tons of energy so needs someone who is able to give him plenty of exercise. He also needs someone who wont leave him alone for long periods, or someone who is able to build up time left alone.

Dougie is a big softy that would make an excellent companion for an experienced owner who is able to continue his training. He is very loving and great fun to work with.

WE HAVE MORE DOGS IN NEED

On average, we have 400 animals come into our shelter every year. Please take a look at some of our dogs looking for loving homes and see if you can find a friend for life. Where appropriate, all of our animals are vaccinated, microchipped and neutered. We also give each animal a behavioural assessment to identify their needs and help you find your perfect companion.
