More about Me

High Energy  High Energy
Quiet Home  Quiet Home

This handsome lad is Jake and he's looking for his forever home. He has very specific rehoming needs and potential adopters should read ALL of Jake's rehoming criteria before applying.

Jake will need an adult only home that is not very socially busy, no resident children and no regularly visiting children. He has struggled on very smooth flooring so his new home will need to have textured flooring (carpet/runners, etc.) that he can walk easily and confidently on. His new home will need to be fairly rural with a good sized, secure garden. He’s looking for a quiet home environment to help him to relax and learn about calmness. Jake’s a very intense, energetic boy who needs to understand downtime is important too!

This boy has a very busy brain which needs a job! He also has some back/hip stiffness to accommodate which may exclude more intense or very energetic activities (e.g. running longer distance, agility, etc.). He’s shown a very strong natural ability for scent work and would like a home where his new owner is experienced in this sport, or is committed to learning with Jake. An activity like scent work is key to creating a really strong, trusting relationship with Jake.

Jake enjoys engaging with people through activities, but doesn’t like to be fussed over. He does enjoy attention, but very much on his terms. If you are looking for a dog to cuddle and lavish with affection then Jake definitely isn’t the dog for you. However, if you are looking for a smart, active dog with tons of potential to learn new skills then Jake ticks all those boxes! Jake’s confidence around handling has continually been improving with staff here, but new owners would need to be prepared to work at his pace.

He may be able to live with a suitably matched dog; a calm dog with a similar play style that would help to build Jake's confidence with social interactions. This would be subject to successful meetings on-site. Jake can walk on lead with other dogs around and is not reactive. He has previously lived with a cat, and given the right home situation may be able to do so again.

Potential adopters will need to be willing to make multiple visits to site to allow Jake to become comfortable around them and practise handling skills.

Jake's key rehoming requirements:

  • Adult only home (no resident or regularly visiting children).
  • Rural home with good size, secure garden.
  • Ideally experience or sound knowledge of low level guarding behaviours.
  • New owners will need a good knowledge of dog body language.
  • An understanding of working with handling concerns would be advantageous.
  • Experience of and/or commitment to learn scentwork or a similar type activity with Jake to give him a job to do.

If you can meet all of Jake's rehoming needs and think he's the right dog for you please email smallanimalteam@oaktreeanimals.org.uk telling us a bit about yourself, why you think Jake could be a good fit for you, your address and your best contact number.

On average, we have 400 animals come into our shelter every year. Please take a look at some of our dogs looking for loving homes and see if you can find a friend for life. Where appropriate, all of our animals are vaccinated, microchipped and neutered. We also give each animal a behavioural assessment to identify their needs and help you find your perfect companion.
