More about Me
JAKE IS LOOKING FOR AN EXPERIENCED, ADULT-ONLY HOME. WE WILL ALSO CONSIDER A VERY EXPERIENCED FOSTER HOME FOR JAKE.
Meet Jake, who is a 15 month old Border Collie with oodles of energy to burn. Jake is very friendly and affectionate once he realises you are his friend but it takes a while for him to build up trust. He is generally confident but can be nervous about meeting new people, and may bark and jump at them. We are carefully introducing him to new people by using positive methods to help him with his confidence. We will expect his new owner to continue using reward based training methods and to follow a training plan which we are currently working on with him. A new owner will need to come and visit him a few times to build up a rapport before adopting Jake. He needs an active, adult home that will be able to fully dedicate their time to him. He has so much to offer for an experienced owner.
Jake has not had much experience of being left alone so will need owners who will be able to build this up very slowly. Jake is quite excitable but willing to learn which is why we are looking for an EXPERIENCED HOME that has trained young dogs previously and understands collies. As well as training, we play a lot of fun and interactive games with him.
He has an amazing personality and learns new things very quickly. He has an active mind and will need to regularly exercise his body and brain cells! Jake has super recall when in our large paddock, and this is something that a new owner could develop when walking him in quiet locations. Jake will need a home with routine and a large secure garden.
Jake becomes very excitable and noisy when he meets another dog, and this is something we are working on and continuing to assess. As he appears to be so reactive and stressed around other dogs, we will currently be looking for a home in a rural or exceptionally quiet location, with no other dogs in the home.
He is a lovely boy with people he knows and trusts, and is a joy to spend time with. Jake has never lived with cats.
We would also consider a very experienced foster home for Jake so please ring for an informal chat if you think you meet the above criteria.

WE HAVE MORE DOGS IN NEED
On average, we have 400 animals come into our shelter every year. Please take a look at some of our dogs looking for loving homes and see if you can find a friend for life. Where appropriate, all of our animals are vaccinated, microchipped and neutered. We also give each animal a behavioural assessment to identify their needs and help you find your perfect companion.
