More about Me

Quiet Home  Quiet Home

Otto has strong interest logged against him by a family who have booked to come in to see him. It is still early days so if you are interested in Otto, feel free to call our reception and leave your details in case this initial interest does not pan out.

Otto is a lovely greyhound, aged somewhere around 10 or 11 years. He is a quiet gentleman who is looking for a home where he can go for nice walks then snooze away in comfort. Otto is not too keen on little excitable dogs coming into his space but is generally laid back. Otto would suit an older person or couple who can offer him cuddles and companionship.

Otto is house trained and can be left on his own for up to 4 hours. He may be better in an adult home, only because he is looking for a quieter pace in life, but he would be fine with visiting children. Otto has previously lived with another large breed dog and potentially could live with the right dog.

Otto has very poor recall and would need a well fenced garden where he can have a run around in. He would need to be walked on lead in unfenced areas.

Otto has recently had a full dental and health check, so is now looking for his special home.

Otto has gone to stay in one of our foster homes, and is not currently on site. His foster carer is full of praise for her house guest so we know he will make a great pet. If you are interested in knowing more about Otto, then please contact us and his caseworker will ring you back for a chat. We would then arrange for him to come back to kennels for the day to meet you.

02/08/18 Here are a few things that Otto's foster carer says about him:

When Oak Tree Animal Charity asked if I would consider fostering an elderly greyhound, I didn’t immediately say yes but as soon as I saw Otto’s photos (that long face and sad eyes!) on the website, I knew I could take him into my home.  Otto has been living with me for almost a week and has been the perfect house guest.  He is such a gentle soul and all he asks for is to share a sofa and have some cuddles.  He does enjoy going for walks but never pesters me to take him out.  I was a little nervous at first in case he wanted to chase small dogs, cats, etc, but that fear proved unfounded.  Yes, he is ‘interested’ in small animals but has not tried to chase them.  He has interacted well with any dogs we have met and loves the attention he gets from everyone we meet.  Otto is very well mannered and appears to have no bad habits.  He’s lying with his head on my lap as I type this and just raised his head as if to check what I’m saying about him.  Don’t worry, Otto, it’s all good!

On average, we have 400 animals come into our shelter every year. Please take a look at some of our dogs looking for loving homes and see if you can find a friend for life. Where appropriate, all of our animals are vaccinated, microchipped and neutered. We also give each animal a behavioural assessment to identify their needs and help you find your perfect companion.
