Description

10/07/2021 ENQUIRIES FOR ROSIE ARE NOW CLOSED WHILE WE LOOK THROUGH THE HIGH VOLUME OF EMAILS ALREADY RECEIVED. WE WILL REPLY TO ALL EMAILS IN DUE COURSE.

Say hello to Rosie, a 3 month old Collie x GSD puppy.

Puppies are great, they are cute, playful, low maintenance due to their size, easy to look after, and lots of fun.....right?  WRONG! Well, they are cute and playful but puppies are hard work too. They require a HUGE commitment to ensure they grow up to be a well adjusted and confident companion, happy in a variety of situations around people and other animals. A puppy is a 15+ year commitment. Rosie has already had 2 homes before coming to us so we need to ensure the next one is the last.

It helps to understand the breed characteristics of her parents. German Shepherds are intelligent, alert, loyal and obedient. They are often used as guarding dogs. Border collies are energetic, responsive, tenacious and loyal. They are often used as herding dogs. Rosie originally came from a farm so is from collie working stock. Rosie needs a home that is active and will keep her mentally and physically engaged.

Rosie is currently in one of our foster homes which is helping us with our assessment of her. They are starting her basic training which an adopter will need to continue. All our training methods are positive, rewarding and fun. This includes house training, crate training, lead training, handling, introducing to being left for short periods, toy swapping, games to encourage confidence and forming a bond, recall training.

Rosie will be homed with a neutering agreement in place which means you will commit to bringing her back to us in the future to be speyed by our vets.

We are looking for:

  • Adopters who have the time and enthusiasm to commit to training Rosie
  • Adopters who have a secure garden
  • Adopters who will be around much of the time, especially during Rosie’s formative early months
  • Adopters who show they have an understanding of, or willingness to learn about positive reward training
  • A home with other pets or children will be considered, although this is very much subject to the individual animals/children and how their time with Rosie is managed

Interested people should email us in the first instance with the following:

  • Include your full name, address, phone numbers
  • Tell us a bit about yourselves and why you feel Rosie would be a perfect match for you
  • Tell us what you understand positive reward-based training to mean

Shortlisted people will be asked to fill out our pre adoption questionnaire and return it with 2 forms of ID. If in rented accommodation, you will be asked to provide a letter (or tenancy agreement that shows you are allowed pets).

Email to: smallanimalteam@oaktreeanimals.org.uk  Rather than click on the link, you may need to copy the email address manually into your email 'To' box, as some people report that the link does not work for them.

WE HAVE MORE DOGS IN NEED

On average, we have 400 animals come into our shelter every year. Please take a look at some of our dogs looking for loving homes and see if you can find a friend for life. Where appropriate, all of our animals are vaccinated, microchipped and neutered. We also give each animal a behavioural assessment to identify their needs and help you find your perfect companion.
