Description

Meet Star...

Star is looking for a very special home, one where she can shine! She's a very affectionate and happy girl who loves life and investigating everything in it...

Star is completely deaf so needs a new family to understand about her training needs and that they are different to a hearing dog's. She is a great student and loves to learn. Staff have been teaching her visual cues and are making good progress. All of Star's training is through positive reinforcement, applicants will need to be familiar with this approach before applying. Ongoing support is available.

Ideally her new family will have an appreciation that Star is very movement focused and as a result has developed some repetitive behaviours. These can become much more apparent when she is stressed or over stimulated including settling into new environments.

Star will need a home with a securely enclosed, good sized garden where she can continue her learning and relax. She is sensitive to traffic movement and we would not look to rehome her in a built up area, or one with lots of passing traffic. Her new family will need to be prepared to walk her in quieter locations, at least in the short term; areas without lots of traffic, people and dogs so she can concentrate on learning.

She can live with older children who will be able to give her visual cues and understand that her needs are different to some other dogs'. Star will need a lot of time and effort put into her training as she is starting from scratch. She's only around 11 months old. Therefore someone around most of the time would be ideal. She's a typically active collie cross and will need both physical and mental stimulation to prevent frustration and boredom.

So far Star has interacted nicely, walking on lead and enjoyed running play with a dog. There is the potential for her to live with a well trained dog. This will be assessed on a case by case basis.

If you can meet all of Star's rehoming needs and think she's the right dog for you please email smallanimalteam@oaktreeanimals.org.uk telling us a bit about yourself, why you think Star could be a good fit for you, your address and your best contact number.

WE HAVE MORE DOGS IN NEED

On average, we have 400 animals come into our shelter every year. Please take a look at some of our dogs looking for loving homes and see if you can find a friend for life. Where appropriate, all of our animals are vaccinated, microchipped and neutered. We also give each animal a behavioural assessment to identify their needs and help you find your perfect companion.
