Weekend Cattery Support

This volunteer role is to provide vital support to our animal care staff to ensure the health and welfare of the cats in our care - Helping with daily cleaning and maintenance of the cattery and keeping the cats company or taking them for visits to our cat garden and day rooms.

Task include

  • Cleaning and upkeep of cat pens and equipment. 
  • Sterilising of items – food bowls, toys etc.
  • Refreshing and replacing litter trays.
  • Assisting with laundry.
  • Carrying out other duties as required – e.g. polishing glass, mopping floors etc.
  • Cat socialisation (with very nervous/shy cats this can even be just sitting quietly in the pen while reading a book), playing and grooming.
  • Making notes/informing staff of any issues (health or behaviour).
  • Following all health and safety guidelines.
  • Ensuring all bio-security procedures are followed.

What attributes are we looking for?

  • Experience of owning/caring for cats.
  • Knowledge of cat care and behaviour – understanding cats’ needs 
  • Capable of reading and writing observations and keeping accurate records.
  • Comfortable in a physically active role spending time on your feet.
  • Ability to work on your own and as part of a team.
  • Happy to follow instructions and new ways of working.
  • Love of cats!
  • Own transport is beneficial due to our location - we are currently not in a position to be able to offer transport.

 

  • Training and support will be provided for this role as appropriate.
  • Shifts are Saturdays or Sundays 1.00-4.30pm
