Weekend Cattery Support
This volunteer role is to provide vital support to our animal care staff to ensure the health and welfare of the cats in our care - Helping with daily cleaning and maintenance of the cattery and keeping the cats company or taking them for visits to our cat garden and day rooms.
Task include
- Cleaning and upkeep of cat pens and equipment.
- Sterilising of items – food bowls, toys etc.
- Refreshing and replacing litter trays.
- Assisting with laundry.
- Carrying out other duties as required – e.g. polishing glass, mopping floors etc.
- Cat socialisation (with very nervous/shy cats this can even be just sitting quietly in the pen while reading a book), playing and grooming.
- Making notes/informing staff of any issues (health or behaviour).
- Following all health and safety guidelines.
- Ensuring all bio-security procedures are followed.
What attributes are we looking for?
- Experience of owning/caring for cats.
- Knowledge of cat care and behaviour – understanding cats’ needs
- Capable of reading and writing observations and keeping accurate records.
- Comfortable in a physically active role spending time on your feet.
- Ability to work on your own and as part of a team.
- Happy to follow instructions and new ways of working.
- Love of cats!
- Own transport is beneficial due to our location - we are currently not in a position to be able to offer transport.
- Training and support will be provided for this role as appropriate.
- Shifts are Saturdays or Sundays 1.00-4.30pm
