Small Pony Weight Awareness
Small ponies are often overweight; it is important to keep a pony of this size healthy. Small ponies can only be ridden by small riders, such as children, who may not have the ability to keep the pony fit.
Here are some ways to keep your smaller horses fit and healthy:
- Lunging
- Walking in hand
- Restricted grazing
- Grazing muzzle
- Soaking hay
Stardust's Transformation
Stardust (in the photos on the right) arrived at Oak Tree in June 2020. She was holding an immense amount of weight for her size. While staying at Oak Tree, Stardust lost over 100kg through exercise and restricting her grass and hay intake.
After lots of hard work Stardust was broken into ride and was ready to start her new adventure in her new home!
