Archie

Neil & Sylvia Bowen (Archie)

Owned by Neil & Sylvia Bowen

Hi, I’m Archie. I’ve been with my adoptive parents for over a year now. I joined them on a fostering basis, just before lockdown, and within a month they fell in love with me so much that they adopted me. A lot has happened since then. I had part of my tail amputated. This was due to ‘happy tail’, but to be honest I don’t miss it and my owners are certainly glad not to have blood splattering everywhere when I enthusiastically wagging it! It’s more a rapid wiggle now. I’ve been on my holidays. I spent a sunny week on the beautiful Northumberland coast . I loved it and ran for miles on those long beaches. I said ‘hello’ and wanted to play with every dog I saw, which was great for me at least!. I did meet my match when a whippet gave chase though, but after awhile, my stamina got the better of the other dog, a bit like that funny bunny on the TV!!! Also, I get a lot of attention when I’m out and about. People want to know what breed I am - a whippet/ spaniel cross if you didn’t know. Not being big headed or anything but they say I’m lovely! In fact one family friend calls me Cheeky Charlie! I don’t know why, maybe one day, someone will explain it to me, that’s if I stand still long enough!! I’ve even been to London in the car to visit family. Amazingly, I travelled all the way there and back without being car sick ( I am usually) - but, if I wiggle my tail I seem to get away with it! I must say I didn’t really like all the noise and hustle and bustle of the big city. You can keep it as far as I am concerned plus I never even saw the Queen (those corgis missed a treat being chased across those lawns in Buckingham Palace)! I’ve also been to Perthshire. I loved chasing pheasants (but they were too fast for me!) leaping over heather and generally running around like a mad banshee (maybe I’m part Scottish as well!) I don’t like water though, no matter how much they try to entice me. I don’t like swimming as I get too cold and shivery. Now mud is another matter… My favourite pastimes are running around in a big open space squeaking my favourite Kong toy as I go. I also love cuddles, running, company and running - in no particular order really, but you can’t beat a good run, did I mention that. I’m enjoying my new home and I know my new owners are enjoying having me too. They gave me a yummy doggy birthday cake filled with all sorts of doggy goodies for my 2nd birthday. So I have another 7 cakes to look forward to over the next year… what do you mean that’s not in the contract! Some careless people left a broken beer bootle on the grass verge one day and I got a bad cut on my back leg. It meant I had to see a lovely vet and nurse who gave me lots of treats while they ‘stapled’ my wound. Although I loved those treats I don’t recommend getting a deep cut from glass for anything… fortunately I’m okay now and it doesn’t appear to have slowed me down at all when I run, as many dogs will testify when I play chase with them! I’m sure when life gets back to “normal” I will have even more adventures and places to explore that I can share with you. Stay safe and stay happy, must run Love Archie x
