Keswick Mountain Festival
19th May 2019
Every year Mountain Rescue Teams throughout the UK receive many call outs relating to dog related incidents. Some of these may have been avoidable. We were delighted to be asked to speak at Keswick Mountain Festival about canine safety in the fells and were able to talk with owners about route planning for dogs, equipment needed, fitness training (stamina, core and proprioception), recall and loose-leash training, identification and canine first aid. These are really important issues that can significantly improve the welfare of dogs when out on the fells, and we were excited that so many people (and dogs!) attended with a wealth of questions afterwards. More information about these topics will be coming on our dog advice community pages soon and look out for our further talks on canine fell safety.
