Supporting those living with dementia
22nd July 2019
We have made a commitment to being a Dementia Friendly service by taking part in staff and volunteer training and assessing today from Kevin Walsh and Wendy Aldred from Carlisle Dementia Action Alliance.
As a charity are delighted to be making a commitment to supporting our clients who live with dementia. We recognise the benefits that pet ownership can bring and are committed to seeking solutions to support those pet owners who live with dementia to prevent avoidable animal suffering.
We welcome thousands of visitors to Oak Tree Farm every year who enjoy using our tearoom and woodland facilities as well as visiting our ponies and goats on site or taking part in one of our courses or events. It’s really important to us that all visitors can benefit from our peaceful surroundings and enjoy their time with our Charity and we will continue to do our best to ensure anyone living with dementia finds us as approachable as any other supporter would.
The training is only the first part of our commitment, we will review our facilities and services and draw up an action plan to develop our work to ensure that everyone in our community feels supported when they approach us and pets can remain with loving owners wherever possible.
We will keep you updated!
