Helping to feed vulnerable pets

14th May 2020

Since the outbreak of Coronavirus we have expanded our Emergency Pet Food Parcel programme beyond Carlisle Foodbank to support Foodbanks and community emergency responders in Wigton, Cockermouth, Workington, Brampton and Keswick.

As people are facing the financial hardship caused by coronavirus we are seeing demand for emergency help increasing in these unprecedented times. Thanks to support and donations from our local community and Purina, we have been able to ensure that animals at the heart of our community are not left without food as their owners try to get back on their feet.

In April over 220 emergency pet food parcels were given to those in desperate need. The team at Oak Tree collect the donations and sort them for the local foodbanks, Carlisle Carers and community responders and “Shorty” our fabulous Facilities Assistant delivers them to the community hubs for distribution.

Some of our smaller local animal charities are also struggling at this time and we are delighted that we have also been able to support our partners at Keswick Pets Lifeline with pet food.

Thank you to everyone for your support; we are managing to help keep our region’s most vulnerable animals fed.
