Speaking up for animals!

23rd September 2021

Recently, we have lent our support to the #FlopDontCrop campaign to raise awareness of the dangers and cruel practices around ear-cropping in dogs.

In one of our recent “Petpods” (our monthly podcast) we had the chance to talk with Vet James Brocket about the rise in ear-cropped dogs in the UK. You can listen to it at https://www.oaktreeanimals.org.uk/about/petpod.html

We were therefore delighted to hear that DEFRA had launched a consultation into the Commercial and Non-Commercial Movements of Pets into Great Britain to try to close some of the loopholes currently exploited by people to carry out ear-cropping procedures (which are illegal in the UK) and to tackle some of the welfare issues relating to puppy smuggling. We’ve contributed to this consultation to try to speak up for animals and if you would like to do so to, you can find the consultation at https://consult.defra.gov.uk/pet-travel-and-imports-team/pet-travel/ until 16th October 2021.
