Poppy

Description

Meet Poppy! She is our 5-year-old cob mare who was backed last summer. She would be suitable for someone looking for a second pony for a confident child, or a smaller adult wanting a pony with great potential to have some fun hacking and competing in low level competitions.

Poppy is lively, bold, and full of spirit, with a sweet and lovable character. She is quick to learn and has progressed quickly in her schooling, hacking, and jumping. She has been out to local in-hand shows, as well as an arena eventing competition where she was very honest, not spooking at the scary jumps, and even placed 2nd! She hacks out both alone and in company, showing to be good in all types of traffic. She can be excited and forward going at times when out hacking but never strong or silly. Poppy is good in open spaces and loves a gallop!

Poppy head collars and catches well. She can be forward going when led, jogging with excitement but with a calm and confident handler, this is easily managed. She loves to be groomed and is happy to be bathed and clipped. She loads and travels well in a trailer.

Poppy is good for the farrier and vet, however, is nervous of needles and will become frightened if pressured. She is improving with this but would need on-going training to continue growing her confidence with injections.

Poppy is currently turned out during the day and stabled overnight. She gets on well with both mares and geldings.

Updates

November 2023 : Poppy attended her first arena eventing show! This consisted of jumping a course of both showjumps and cross country fences. Poppy was excited when she first entered the warm up ring as she was in a new environment with lots of different ponies cantering round. She soon calmed and did a lovely warm up where she had a walk, trot and canter and popped a few jumps. When going round the arena eventing course Poppy proved honest and had no refusals even at some very spooky jumps!
